Wellness Tip

Text Box: If you have difficulty paying attention to what is being said in the classroom:

Try to anticipate the main ideas of the coming lecture: Look over your notes of the previous lecture and read the course material.
If you have questions about material from the previous class or text, ask the instructor before class.
Resist distractions: Sit in front of the room away from disruptive classmates and focus on the instructor through active listening and note taking.
Put yourself in the “mood”: Adopt an attentive expression and posture; do not sprawl.
Shift position in your seat every so often: Don’t sit frozen in one position. Occasional shifting will help keep your blood circulating, send more oxygen to your brain, and help you remain alert.
When appropriate, ask a question: ask for more clarity or engage the instructor and the class in dialogue.
Train yourself not to give in to distractions: Form a tunnel between you and the instructor. Practice letting people move or cough without having to look at them. Keep your concentration on what is in front of you.

Alcohol Awareness Quiz

Text Box: Bunny Shipman is Student Support Services’ Professional Math Tutor. Bunny began her education at RMCC when she earned her GED; she went on to earn her Associate of Arts from RMCC in 1991. Bunny has been with SSS since 1992 and has devoted thousands of hours to helping hundreds of students pass their math classes. Bunny says the hardest part about her job is getting students to believe that they can do math. Her “math motto,” borrowed from Henry Ford, states, “If you think you can do a thing or that you cannot do a thing, in either case, you are right.” Her math lab is located in room 307 in the Abernathy Building.
