The Rich Mountain Community College Board of Trustees voted unanimously to offer the position of College President to Dr. Wayne
Hatcher. Dr. Hatcher is currently Vice President of Student Services, Labette Community College, Parsons, Kansas and
has been in said position at Labette for over seven years. He earned his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from
the University of North Texas in 1996 and has over 30 years in higher education administration.
RMCC outstanding faculty and staff members were recently selected by their peers.
Amy Phelps is this year's outstanding faculty member. Phelps grew up in Waldron and graduated from Waldron High School in 1991,
then graduated from Arkansas Tech University in 1996 with a BSN. Following graduation, she married Chris Phelps and moved
to Pine Bluff where she worked at Jefferson Regional Medical Center's Women Health Center full time as a charge nurse.
RMCC recently received $500 from Arkansas River Valley Resource Conservation and Development Area (Paul Whittington, Chairman)
to help in the creation of an outdoor classroom.
RMCC Student Government Association Elects Officers
RMCC Student Government Association (SGA) recently held elections for the 2008-2009 officers. Those elected are Deborah Fields,
President; Vickie Brannon, Vice President; Toni Lewis, Secretary; Katherin Beaty, Treasurer; Laura Hook, At-large;
Angelina Lewis, At-large; and Katrina Hendricks, Math Division. Phillip Wilson, RMCC Vice President for Student Affairs
stated, "SGA is the on-campus voice for students, and RMCC students interested in filling any available position on SGA
should contact my office at 479-394-7622 x 1400."
RMCC to Host Military Reception
Rich Mountain Community College will host a come and go reception for Military Spouse Appreciation Day on Friday, May 9, 2008
from noon to 1:00 PM in front of the St. John Library. The College is located at 1100 College Drive in Mena.
RMCC graduation is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2008. Commencement begins at 6:30 p.m. on the front lawn of campus at 1100
College Drive in Mena. Dr. Ed Franklin, Executive Director of Arkansas Association of Two Year Colleges, will be the featured
speaker as RMCC celebrates its 25th year as a Community College.
Mena Middle School students in Cathy Marshall's career orientation classes recently visited RMCC. The students toured
campus and learned more about attending college from Tammy Young, director of admissions at RMCC.

meetings with RMCC employees, and opportunities for students and the public to meet the finalists. The three candidates will
be at RMCC on Thursday, May 15 and Friday, May 16. Information regarding each candidate is stated in a separate press release.

in the presidential search. One candidate, Dr. Jimmy Cargill, withdrew his name from consideration. According to the RMCC Board,
the four candidates previously interviewed are still being considered in the search process.
The Great Outdoors Day in Polk County Planned for May 7
Arkansas Forestry Commission and Rich Mountain Conservation District are presenting a program entitled "The Great Outdoors Day
in Polk County." The event will take place on the campus of Rich Mountain Community College with approximately 280 fifth grade
students from throughout the area invited to attend. Fourteen information sessions will be presented for students to learn
more about the outdoors. Lunch for students will be provided by Arvest Bank, Chambers Bank, First National Bank, Union Bank,
and WalMart. A tree planting ceremony is also included in the plans for the day.
RMCC Board Invites Additional Candidates to Interview for President
The RMCC Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Thursday evening to invite additional candidates to interview for the position
of College President. The schedule for interviews and more details about each candidate will be announced as soon as possible.
An attempt was made to reschedule Dr. Jimmy Cargill, one of the finalists, however when contacted Cargill withdrew his name from
consideration.
Other finalists added to the search for consideration are: Dr. Paula Davis, Dean of Instruction, Independence Community College, Independence, Kansas; Dr. Wayne Hatcher, Vice President of Student Services, Labette Community College, Parsons, Kansas; and Dr. Stephen Hilterbran, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Baton Rouge Community College, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
According to the RMCC Board, the four candidates previously interviewed are still being considered in the search process.
Change in Presidential Search Interview Schedule
RMCC Board of Trustees has received notification that Dr. Jim Cargill will be unable to attend this week's interview process
due to scheduling and travel difficulties. Dr. Cargill had been scheduled to interview for the president's position on Tuesday.
The campus and public forum schedules for other candidates will not change, however Dr. Cargill's assigned forum times have been canceled.
Honors Evening at RMCC Scheduled for May 8th
Rich Mountain Community College's annual Honors Evening is scheduled for May 8, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. The evening provides a time to
honor students for their achievements throughout the academic year.
The event will be in the St. John Library on the College's Mena campus at 1100 College Drive. Refreshments will be served just
prior to the ceremony. For more information, call 479-394-7622.
RMCC recently held campus activities in celebration of Community College Week for students, employees and community members.
Receptions honoring the St. John Library and the art department were highlights of the week, along with Student Government
Activities (SGA) sponsored events. Drawings for books and gift certificates took place in the library, and student art
work lined the halls of the Spencer Building. The art displays will remain available through April 30.
Melanie Shelton is RMCC's Student Support Services Student of the Month for April. She will graduate in May from RMCC with an
Associate of Arts and an Associate of Arts in Teaching.
