Lifelong Learning and Workforce Development



The Rich Mountain Community College Department of Lifelong Learning & Workforce Development exists to provide education and training opportunities targeted towards professional and hands-on skill development in concert with the needs identified by businesses, industries, organizations, and individuals in our service area.

Continuing Education and Workforce Development

Lifelong Learning is an ongoing activity with the aim of improving personal and/or professional knowledge, skills, and competence.  RMCC’s Department of Lifelong Learning and Workforce Development is dedicated to providing youth and adult learners with experiences that develop curiosity, independence, and initiative.  Our programs are designed to encourage, stimulate, and empower individuals to attain knowledge and skills with confidence and enjoyment.  The Department is dedicated to working with community to build skills and motivation that support learning throughout life.  Lifelong Learning is not just foundational to personal and cultural development, but also to competitiveness, employability, and entrepreneurism.

Department Objectives:

  • Offer a wide spectrum of educational and training services to strengthen and improve the regional workforce.
  • Partner with business, industry, and community organizations to ensure that educational programs meet current, future, and entrepreneurial workforce skill requirements.
  • Create and promote professional development opportunities that are mutually beneficial to the College and its community.
  • Provide service-learning opportunities that expose students to a lifestyle of community involvement and the community to lifelong learning.
  • Create a college culture in which members engage in lifelong learning.
  • Ensure accessibility to affordable lifelong learning activities and opportunities for RMCC’s service area.
  • Promote career exploration to assist prospective students in choosing educational programs suited to their interests and abilities.
  • Offer a variety of courses and programs designed to prepare individuals for a certificate, an associate’s degree, job entry, or transfer to a four year college or university.
  • Engage the community through effective and innovative programs and partnerships which promote economic development, social and cultural awareness, and academic growth.
  • Create and sustain a culture of evidence and continuous improvement.

About the Classes

The Department of Lifelong Learning and Workforce Development offers credit and non-credit courses during the academic year and summer sessions.  All academic policies apply to the Department of Lifelong Learning and Workforce Development.  Customized trainings can be tailored to suit the needs of groups, organizations, and business & industry partners on campus or at your business location.  For information about customized services, contact Maureen Keese Director of Lifelong Learning and Program Development. 

Cost and Attendance

Tuition and fees are based upon the type of training. Tuition is generally due at registration. Refunds for noncredit classes will apply only if the class is canceled. Students who fail to attend regularly are dropped from the class. The tuition waiver policy for age 60+ does not apply to RMCC Lifelong Learning Workforce Development classes.
