Federal and State Programs
Federal Work Study (FWS)
This program provides employment opportunities to assist students in earning the funds necessary to meet
the cost of post secondary education. Eligibility is restricted to students having the greatest need,
as determined by the Federal Financial Aid Form. Eligible students may work up to 20 hours per week
while attending classes at least half time. Checks are disbursed bi-monthly. Applications for the FWS
program are available in the Financial Aid Office or online (Federal Work Study Application).
Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
This program makes funds available to qualified students who, for lack of financial means, would be unable to obtain a certificate or degree. Eligibility is based on the Federal Financial Aid Form.
Federal Pell Grant Program
This is a federal student financial aid program designed to assist eligible students in their post secondary education. This grant provides a foundation of financial aid to help defray the costs of education. All undergraduate students
are eligible to apply for Pell Grant assistance. Student eligibility is based on financial need and is determined by a formula that is applied consistently to all applications. The formula has been developed by the U.S. Department of Education and is reviewed by Congress on an annual basis.
Recipients of these financial aid programs must sign statements of educational purpose stating all monies received will be used solely for costs directly related to attendance at the College. In addition, those students born after December 31, 1959, must sign statements relating to selective service registration and provide proof of such registration, if required.
Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)
The Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) is a Title IV program designed for students that completed
rigorous programs of study in high school. The student requirements are: student must be a U.S. citizen,
Federal Pell Grant recipient, 1st or 2nd year student in a two or your year degree program and be enrolled
full time. RMCC FAO will use the state designated program options as defined by the state the student
attended high school. The FAO will also use the regulations defined by the Department of Education
(DOE) for this program. (Defined June 2006 and thereafter by DOE) The VP for Student Affairs will
evaluate perspective students HS transcripts to determine eligibility. The VP for Student Affairs
will then notify the FAO of student's eligibility.
Arkansas Academic Challenge
The Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship Program is a college scholarship plan to promote academic achievement and encourage academically prepared Arkansas high school graduates to enroll in the state’s
colleges and universities. Award is made based on the applicant’s meeting minimum standards with regard to the ACT composite score, grade point average (GPA) in the pre-collegiate core curriculum defined by the State Board of Higher Education, and financial need. Arkansas Rehabilitation Services
Rich Mountain Community College cooperates with the Arkansas Rehabilitation Services offices in placing students in approved training programs. American Indian Center
Rich Mountain Community College cooperates with the American Indian Center offices in placing students in approved degree programs. American Indian Center counselors determine the benefits that students receive from this program. Contact the AIC Office 1-800-441-4513.
Workforce Improvement Grant
The Workforce Improvement Grant is a state funded grant that assist non-traditional students with their educational expenses. Students that qualify may be granted awards up to $2000 annually. Students must be at least 24 years old. Awards are based on financial need. Students apply using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Awards are made by the institutions. Students may be enrolled part time.
Workforce Investment Act
Rich Mountain Community College cooperates with the Workforce Investment Act offices in placing students in approved training programs. Workforce Investment Act determines the eligibility requirements. For more information,

Higher Educational Opportunity Grant
The Higher Educational Opportunity Grant is a state funded grant that assist traditional student with their educational expenses. Students that qualify may be awarded up to $2000 annually based on full-time enrollment. The student must be a high school graduate or GED graduate after December 31, 2006. Students apply using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and completing the Higher Educational Opportunity Grant application on the ADHE website. Students may be enrolled part time to receive funds.
