Academic Scholarships
President, Board of Trustees, and Vice Presidents' Scholarships
Rich Mountain Community College offers a limited number of performance-based Incoming Freshman
Scholarships to graduating high school seniors from the RMCC service area based on academic, scholastic,
community services, and leadership characteristics. The President's Scholarship pays the cost of tuition
for fifteen hours for up to four consecutive semesters, excluding summer terms, fees, and $50 per semester
book allowance. The Board of Trustee Scholarship pays tuition for up to fifteen hours and fees; the
Vice Presidents' Scholarship pays up to fifteen hours tuition. The student shall meet specified criteria
listed below.
Application forms for the President's, Board of Trustees, and Vice Presidents' Scholarships may be
obtained from high school counselors, from the Financial Aid Office at Rich Mountain Community College
or online at www.rmcc.edu. The completed application form must be submitted no later than April 1 for
high school students graduating in May or June.
Students making application for the President's Scholarship must have at least a 3.75 GPA on high school
work: Board of Trustees Scholarship applicants must have at least a 3.50 GPA; and the Vice Presidents'
Scholarships must have at least a 3.0 GPA. In addition, each should also meet the following criteria:
- ACT composite score of 22 or higher.
- Enroll in at least 12 semester credit hours at RMCC.
- Submit the completed application form by April 1 to the Financial Aid Office at RMCC.
In order to receive the President's, Board of Trustees, or Vice Presidents' Scholarships for the
succeeding semesters, the student must meet the following criteria:
- Successfully complete a minimum of 12 semester credit hours each semester enrolled at RMCC.
(When evaluating academic progress, developmental hours are included in enrollment hours and
cumulative GPA.)
- Maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA at RMCC.
- Continue to be a full-time student in order to keep the scholarship.
GED Scholarship
The GED Scholarship may be awarded each semester to a graduate of Rich Mountain Community College
Adult Education Center. To qualify, students must make a composite score of 540 or higher on the GED
exam and have been a full-time student in the GED program at RMCC. The student must complete an essay
stating the reason they are requesting the scholarship. The deadline for essays is May 31 and must
be turned in to the Financial Aid Office. The scholarship pays the cost of tuition only for the
first semester and is renewable for up to four consecutive semesters, excluding summer terms, provided
the student maintains a 3.0 GPA. The recipient must enroll on a full-time basis in order to be eligible.
